(all use JET 4 as the default database engine) and possible Access 2007 (IIRC) to convert your database file (MDB) from JET 3.5 file format to JET 4 file format. However, ACE can read data in a database of JET 4 file format. Access 2013 uses ACcess Database EngineĪbbreviated to ACE which is the upgraded/re-written version of JET 4 and ACE canNOT read data in a database of JET 3.5 file format. Access 2013 cannot read database file in JET 3.5 file format. What you have at the moment is a database file in JET 3.5 file format (if it was created using Access 97).

I've been happily writing VB5/6 code for the last 20+ years and interfacing with Access (tables and queries only). I do recall vaguely reading in forums that some earlier MDAC version(s) include updated version
Can i upgrade office 2003 to 2010 install#
The last time I used MDAC (probably 10 years ago) was to install updated version of ADO (ActiveX Data Objects). One other thing I'm also confused about is where MDAC fits into the picture? I found finally find a KB that listed what JET was supported by what Office version.īut since jET is independent of Office, the question in my mind is how do I get it, other than through Office, as well as all the DAO libraries (dlls) I need to use it from VB or whatever language. What I had in mind was writing VB code to copy all tables and queries form one database to another unless the new Office will recognize the Office97.mdb and no action is needed.Ģ) Will the new Access still allow me to manipulate Tables and Queries from VB using DAO?ģ) If the new Access will not recognize Office97 Access is my best best ot export both Tables and Queries to a CVS file and then import the CVS into the new Office or is there a better solution? So since my databases are Access base I need to make a decision as to whether to upgrade to a new version of Access or find another solution.ġ) Should I select the newest version of Office - name please - (I do NOT want any cloud) and will it allow me easily port my Access tables and queries over from Office97? I don't want to rewrite 20 + years of code but things are out of my control. VB5/6 and office was a great combination for a small business, but with VB5/6 now deprecated by Microsoft and not knowing when they might pull the plug, my whole business would be come to a complete halt. With the upgrade to Windows 7, I finally got Office 97 running so I can continue running my business for now. I've been happily writing VB5/6 code for the last 20+ years and interfacing with Access (tables and queries only) and using Excel in some cases for output only.
